The Fox

Hi folks, have a few queries for anyone who works with this animal.
I have had a few strange encounters with the fox recently, both in the physical waking world and in others. Around my way, the foxes have been just about driven away. Years ago, one would not be surprised, when investigating why your rooster was screaming, to find a red fox with his paws in the cage. Nowadays, as the houses went up and the bush dwindled, they aren't seen much at all.
I saw one however, when I was collecting herbs for dinner, staring straight at me in the dark. I have seen a horrible amount of them dead on the sides of the road all of a sudden. There was also a red and white fox in my dreams.
Anyone ever had much to do with the fox in an animist sense? Care to share?

Australia has more red foxes than the whole of the UK. So even though we often don't see them, we pretty much have one of the highest concentrations of red foxes in the world. NSW and VIC are two of the hardest hit states.

There are some members here who have fox as their primary guide / totem / animal energy (whatever your term :) ) who will be able to shed more detail than I can, but I have worked with fox several times in my life, and also been blessed with some unusual spiritual encounters with fox in 'real life' too.

I tend to find that for me personally, an encounter with 'real' fox can signify that I'm on the right track spiritually, but that I'm also in for a bit of a rollercoaster ride. In many animist cultures, fox has been seen as a trickster, and while I don't find fox as much of a trickster as some of the others, I've seen this element myself when working with her. I usually end up laughing at myself over at least one incredibly deranged decision I've made about my life and lifestyle.

I wrote a more detailed article about fox and fox energy here, it's specifically from an Australian perspective, which you might appreciate:

Fox to me is quite a magical or 'supernatural' animal, being associated with the lore of the Japanese kitsune (malicious or benevolent fox spirits, in Japanese Shinto mythology) and also being called a trickster in Siberia. Whenever I encounter fox in the otherworlds when I'm not 'looking' for them, I tend to be quite wary, because it can also signify that a god is nearby for me, or a powerful spirit, who doesn't always want to play nice!

I really enjoy foxes and fox energy, and the few times I've encountered wild ones in real life have been moments that stand out as some of the most precious animal encounters in my life.

Hope this helps some.

I know that at our apartment building we have/had a fox visitor from time to time in the dumpster. He/she seems very cautious when it gets caught there. Usually slinks off rather than run.

Vulpes vulpes, ra ra ra!

I tend to work with a fox guide a fair bit, or he tends to work with me! A young male, wiser than his "physical" years, more powerful than he lets be known, and in my experience far more curious and playful than mischevious.

I also work with a slightly older vixen, but we haven't really been close in the last few years. She most often shows her face during times of great anger. She is decidedly someone not to mess with.

In terms of seeing them here in real life in Australia, they always remind me of adaptability.

The red fox is the happiest animal spirit I've ever encountered. We have lots of red foxes where I live, but I only see the fox spirit occasionally. I don't know if this is how others see him, but he seems to be made of pure joy.
